Thank you. I mean seriously, why is he only remembered for that tiny throw-away line, one which isn’t even “Not My Division”; it’s “Not OUR Division.”
Why can’t Lestrade be remembered for something better, like how he was literally putting his job on the line for years just to let Sherlock in to help solve crimes and more importantly to Lestrade, save lives? Why can’t he be remembered for how he is one of the most tolerant people on the show, that he puts up with Sherlock’s insults not just because it’s for the good of the case, but because he genuinely cares about Sherlock?
Why is he more remembered for the (rather stupid, in my opinion) “Division” quote rather than his “Great Man, Good Man” one? People should remember that he had hope for Sherlock’s character way before John came into the picture.
Another thing, I see all these posts that spawn from the “Not My Division” posts, saying that Lestrade’s main characteristic is laziness. That is the biggest B.S. I have ever heard in my life. Have people seen how hard that man works? How despite the fact his intellect is lower than Sherlock’s, he still managed to work his way up to D.I. and close cases on his own? The man looks exhausted every time we see him at a crime scene.
The man is brave as hell, too. ”The Hounds of Baskerville” comes to mind first and foremost, because did you see his expressions during that episode? Lestrade was clearly scared shitless, because he was facing a giant hound and I doubt he had all the information that John and Sherlock were privy to, and yet he holds his ground. He isn’t intimidated by Sherlock in the least; in fact, he has the gall to arrest him in order to protect him if necessary, and can even threaten Sherlock with a drugs bust in order to obtain evidence.
People might say he is lazy because of the vacation he took before “Hounds”. Here’s how I see it. Lestrade’s already over-worked as it is, and dealing with Sherlock can’t be a big stress-reliever either. Oh, and to boot, he’s going through a utterly nasty divorce with his wife, after Sherlock bomb-shelling him about it. I say, he damn well deserved that vacation.
Lestrade has so much more that he could be known for, and instead, we get “Not my division”. I say people need to actually look at who he really is, how dedicated he is, and how he deserves so much more than what the fanbase gives him. I’m actually thankful for the year so far between Series 2 and 3, because I have used that time to fall in love with him, to appreciate him, to love every look he gives and every action he makes because there is such a heart behind each of them. He has become my favorite character, and the one I pay most attention to on screen.
Greg Lestrade, everybody. Give him the love and respect he deserves.
p.s.
people who think that scene was about Lestrade’s “laziness” tend to be the same people who tout the intelligence of the fandom
even though they miss the fact that that scene was about juxtaposition, (three people freak out over the break ins so we expect lestrade to but he’s calm because it’s not even supposed to be something he deals with)
hold on to that OP, that you know better

Wholock AU: The Doctor tries to solve the mystery of Sherlock Holmes, the detective who keeps dying.
Oh. YES.
“YOU’RE SO MISOGYNIST AND RACIST,” screamed Elementary fandom, waving its latte.
“YOU’RE HOMOPHOBIC AND INACCURATE AND A COPYCAT,” sobbed Sherlock fandom.
“Children, please,” Granada fandom sighed from its wingback armchair. “Settle down and fetch me a drink.”“WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU ASSHOLES” Sir Arthur Conan Doyle yelled from his grave

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - Madam Simza appreciation post.
They really hate their outerwear.
And then there’s this asshole
This is fantastic. When I first started listening, I was fooled. I thought it was someone else reading as Watson, and Benedict would come in later as Holmes. But NO! He’s reading every character and it’s fantastic. He just gets more and more amazing.
I just bought these, and I’ve been listening to them on my way home from work at night.
Needless to say, I’m incredibly horny by the time I pull in the driveway.
His voice is so fucking fantastic.
I know that feel.
“Who’s been dancing on my chest?!”
“Me.”

In this Sherlock Holmes game, the designers forgot to make it so that Watson would actually follow you when you moved, resulting in some freaky Paranormal Activity shit.
WHY IS THIS FUNNY

“When you’ve had a working relationship that’s both challenging and inspiring – and when it’s also easy to spend time with that person – then you do miss it, if I’m honest.”

ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER THINGS, ONE OF THESE THINGS JUST DOESN’T BELONG
That’s right, I don’t care who I offend, I’m coming out and saying it. Since when does Watson have a moustache?
What is this
disgusting thing
doing on Watson’s lip?
hold up
“‘He was a middle-sized, strongly built man- square jaw, thick neck, moustache, a mask over his eyes.’
“‘That’s rather vague,’ said Sherlock Holmes. ‘Why, it might be a description of Watson.’”
